If a person’s cognitive function is impaired there is the possibility that they may forget to eat or drink this is detrimental to the persons wellbeing. Within a care setting the resident may think they have not been fed or have forgotten that they have been fed and given fluids. If a person’s ability to function changes this may include the ability to hold cutlery, or understand how to use cutlery or how to hold a cup and bring it to their lips. A person could be too emotional to be able to eat or they may have forgotten why they need to eat.
