Spartacus was a Thracian Gladiator and he was the leader of the Slave Army. Spartacus Started the Third Servile War, the war between the Slave Army and Rome, because he threatened Rome. Spartacus once said, “Whatever happens, it happens because we choose for it. We decide our fates.” Spartacus said that so he can encourage the people who were in the Slave Army. Spartacus early life was not well-known, but it was said he fought with or against Rome (Encyclopedia of World Biography 1). Overall, Spartacus was a brave and strong leader, and all he wanted was freedom.
First, Spartacus was born in Thrace in 109 BC. Spartacus early life was not well-known and he was a slave at one point. He soon later found himself as a Thracian Gladiator in a gladiator school at Cupua. Spartacus then escaped gladiator with 70-80 other gladiators, and they grabbed weapons while they escaped. They headed off to Mount. Vesuvius, at the time an extinct volcano, and banded with other slaves and farmers which soon grown into being the Slave Army and the beginning of the Third Servile War (HistoryNet 1).
However, Spartacus was known for his bravery and him leading the Slave Army. In all, Spartacus fought in many battles and defeated many army. He threatened Rome and defeated the governor of Cisalpine Gaul at Mutina. Spartacus lead the Slave Army into defeating Claudius Glaber and his 3,000 soldiers at Mount. Vesuvius. Spartacus defeated the two consuls sent by the Senate in Rome during the Battle at Picenum and defeated two other consuls in separate battle in Central Italy (Biography on Spartacus 1-2). Spartacus had a lot of obstacles but the two main obstacles he faced were the Senate in Rome and Crassus and his army.
Then, in the Spring of 71 BC Spartacus suffered two defeats from Crassus. Spartacus risked a major battle with Crassus. In the battle Spartacus and 60,000 of his men fell and Spartacus body was never found (Biography on Spartacus 3). After his death many of the people who were in the Slave Army got captured and killed. Spartacus was more popular after his death because after he died he was known for his bravery and his leadership. When Spartacus died it was the end of the Slave Army and the end of the Third Servile War (Encyclopedia of World Biography 1).
