The Equality Act 2010 mostly came into force in October 2010, it included some major changes to disability discrimination law compared with the previous legislation Disability Discrimination Act 1995. Changes in legislation have enabled people to enter the job market more easily, an employer is not allowed to perform pre-employment screening in terms of disabilities, race, age or sex (the guy that applied for our job, had his information in the covering letter).
The act also states that reasonable adjustments or changes must be made environmentally, this could be wheelchair ramps, hearing loops, bumps on the paths at crossings enabling blind people to know they are at the crossing. Before the new legislation, not enough was in place to enable disabled people. (Legislation Gov UK 2010).
