The topic I have chosen to research is drug testing in the workplace. There are many concerns that arise from this topic. For instance, some people feel that drug testing in the workplace can be a valuable tool in detecting and putting a stop to drug use. In addition, it can greatly enhance health, safety, productivity, profits, and minimize employee turnover rates in the workplace. Yet, on the other side of the ethical issue some people feel that drug testing in the workplace is a violation of privacy. Random drug testing gives the employer the option of requiring individuals to submit to a drug test if they wish to keep their jobs. In this research paper I will examine drug testing in the workplace and argue that even though drug testing can be a valuable tool in detecting and putting a stop to drug use, it is still an invasion of privacy when there is no probable cause to conduct a drug test.
