You don’t have to be a classical musical lover to know of Beethoven. He is one of the most influential figure in the history of classical music. He is Ludwig Van Beethoven and For over two century Beethoven his music has electrified audience from all over the world and including myself. For those who may know or be familiar with his work, most likely you have already been expose to his music. To the world, Beethoven was a genius, a master of his craft Inspired by his life,I wanted to learned more about the man behind the piano, his early life, achievements and struggles
Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in December 16,1770 and baptized on the following day December 17, 1770 in Bonn Germany. His parents were Maria Magdalena van Beethoven and Johan van Beethoven. He was the eldest of three surviving children. Born from a family of musician, his grandfather who also share his name was Kapellmeister Ludwig van Beethoven, very well respected music director. However, his father Johan van Beethoven was court musician who was more known for his alcoholism than any of his musical abilities. Beethoven was born with the heart of a musician. At very young age Ludwig began to show an interest for music. He had a special sensitivity with sound and music was in his nature. His father recognized his son’s musical ability and decided to coach him hoping his son would become the next prodigy child, the new Mozart once was. Unfortunately, the quest to make Ludwig his prodigy made him too harsh on the child. He was physically and emotionally abusive towards his son. He would force his son to practice for hours and would beat him for even playing the wrong notes. The rigorous training didn’t allow Ludwig to have a normal childhood. Instead of playing with kids of his age, you would practice on the piano. Playing the piano was the only thing he knew and was natural at it.
The lack of human interaction made Ludwig a very lonely and awkward child. Clearly, he didn’t have a normal childhood. Then again Ludwig was no ordinary child. Surprisingly, the years of abuse and harsh training, didn’t turn off the young Ludwig from his musical ability. On the contrary, with each day he fell more and more in love with music. Already being an expert pianist, He began to explore other instrument like the violin and organ. By the age of eight, Ludwig was gave his first performance impressing everyone in the audience. ….
Christian Gottlob Neefe, a well know court organist musician. Neefe was so impress by Ludwig’s talent that he became his teacher. He introduce him to some of the greatest in music such Ludwig Bach and Mozart. He was expose to to all the great operas and music of the time . By the age of 10 Ludwig quits school to devote himself full time to music. Inspired by Neefe teaching’s, he was determine to learn the most he could to become great musician. By the age of twelve, Beethoven published his first composition, a set of piano variations on a theme by classical composer name Dressler.
By 1784, Beethoven’s father’s alcoholism had worsen and could no longer take care and support his family. Beethoven formally requests to officially be appointed the position of Assistant Court Organist. In 1787 at the age of 17, the court decides to send Beethoven to Vienna, Europe’s capital for culture and music to further his studies under the teaching of Mozart. Once in Vienna, he is mesmerized by city’s energy. He was hungry to prove himself. Above all he was looking forward to studying under Mozart who he idolized since he was child. But did two of music’s greatest ever meet? Beethoven meets the greatest ? There has been conflicting information on wether Beethoven actually met or even studied with Mozart. I would like to believe that two of the greatest did meet. Beethoven played for Mozart and was amazed by his talent. His prediction was ” Keep your eyes on him, someday he will give the world something to talk about. After only a few weeks in Vienna, Beethoven returns home to be by his dying mother side. After his mother death, Beethoven decides to stay home. Bonn and take care of his family. At eighteen he had the responsibility of taking care of his family. Eventually the weight of having such big responsibility made very bitter and bad tempter, at the same time the responsibility made him confident and resourceful man. While in Bonn, he continues to build a name for himself. To help pay the bills he takes a job at the Bonn Court.
